As the Santa Cruz Film Festival embarks on the 8th year in our mission to bring a world-class film festival to the Monterey Bay area, we give you:
Eight Reasons
to Support the Santa Cruz Film Festival
1. Independent storytelling
SCFF has presented over 800 diverse films from local, national and international filmmakers who explore the stories and struggles left out of mainstream cinema and media.
2. Quality programming
People pay attention: films screened at the Santa Cruz Film Festival have gone on to secure theatrical distribution, win awards, and be screened at Cannes, Toronto and Sundance Film Festivals. After being chosen to screen at SCFF 2008, Summer Scars was nominated for The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Awards and August Evening won the John Cassavetes Award at the Independent Spirit Awards.
3. Helping our local economy
Every dollar contributed to a non-profit arts organization generates 13 additional dollars of economic impact. According to the Santa Cruz County Conference and Visitors Council, our economic impact to date surpasses 1 million dollars in revenue to Santa Cruz County businesses.
4. Learning opportunities and empowering youth
During the festival, opportunities abound to chat with visiting filmmakers, artists, writers, and film experts through educational panels, workshops, Q+A sessions and events. 80+ youth works from all around the world have been celebrated at SCFF including Santa Cruz County's up-and-coming stars. Students from Georgiana Bruce Kirby, Pacific Collegiate, Santa Cruz, Aptos, San Lorenzo Valley, Soquel, and Watsonville High Schools have shown their films at SCFF.
5. Building and creating community
SCFF features collaborative screenings and performances to highlight important local issues. Partners include: UC Santa Cruz, The Museum of Art & History, Black Rock Arts Foundation, Bridge School, Shakespeare Santa Cruz, William James Association, Silicon Valley Jewish Film Festival, and Burmese Migrant Worker Education, to name a few.
6. It's not just a film festival, it's an experience
The Santa Cruz Film Festival combines the cinematic experience with one-of-a-kind artistic productions. In 2008, attendees experienced slam poetry, a Neo-Benshi live narration, and jump-roping by the world's top competitive jump-ropers.
7. Supporting our local culture
Local filmmakers, writers, musicians, and artists are invited and encouraged to showcase their work at the Santa Cruz Film Festival. To-date: 110 films programmed and counting.
8. Tax Deductible
The Santa Cruz Film Festival is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) charitable arts organization. Contributions are tax-deductible.
The Santa Cruz Film Festival is a mutli-disciplined organization, put on by many committed people volunteering their time. We do this because we believe it matters to you, and is important for our community. We realize you have many choices for sponsorship each year. By contributing to SCFF you're supporting the artistic integrity of Santa Cruz County and its culture. Your support is very much needed and acknowledged throughout the Festival. Please see our sponsor package, which explain our sponsorship levels.
Thank you for your consideration.
