In 2002, 67 films were screened over our inaugural five day festival. Venues include The Delmar, The Riverfront Theater, Veterans Memorial Hall.

The SCFF inaugural theme "All Digital Films are Handmade" acknowledged that we are in a digital age, digital is new, but has birthed another culture of film makers through its renegade low budget guerrilla style capabilities. Congruently these films are still made by ones little digits.

Some highlights include:

Best of the Fest Doc short film "Thoth" by filmmaker Sarah Kernochan. went on to win an Oscar. THOTH graced us during the fest with his music and indomitable spirit. A delight.

Best of Fest Feature "Home Room" by director Paul F. Ryan went on to secure distribution and tons of Hollywood and film press.

Best Documentary Blue Vinyl by the film artist and political activist Judith Helfand came to support the fest and further her crusade against poly dioxins.

The Cockettes directors Bill Weber & David Weissman. This loving portrait set in the psychedelic 60's in San Francisco reintroduced us to that band of hippies (gay + straight men, women + babies) who form The Cockettes. This outrageous, gender-bending performance art commune takes the stage. They are the embodiment of liberated theatre and many of the Cockettes came down to celebrate this amazing OPENING NIGHT festivities.

SCFF was Honored the Cultural Achievement Award 2002 by Downtown Business Association.

18 local filmmaker's works were invited.
