The Master Cleanse
(Narrative Feature, 1 hr 21 mins)
Synopsis: The Master Cleanse centers on a heartbroken man who attends a spiritual retreat, only to discover that the course releases more than everyday toxins and traumatic experiences. The emotional baggage of the retreat participants transforms into creatures. Johnny Galecki stars as Paul, a regular guy whose life has stalled some years after his fiancee jilted him. After seeing an ad for a nature retreat promising to heal broken people for free, his response is not "avoid this frightening cult" but "may I attend your informational session?"
Director: Bobby Miller is a filmmaker known for making comedies that are secretly kind of sad. His short film "Tub" and feature debut "The Master Cleanse" also add horror, fantasy, and little creatures to the mix. The films' world premiered at Sundance and SXSW respectively.
